Open hearts ball

The guests of the 2nd International Charity Ball organized by the Family Association of the Princes Lubomirski enjoyed themselves dancing foxtrot and swing on Saturday night at the Wiśnicz castle.

The money raised at this biggest social gathering in Europe will be donated to the purchase of medical equipment for the Children’s Oncology Hospital in Kraków-Prokocim.

About seven hundred people attended the Charity Ball organized at the Wiśnicz castle. Among them were politicians, businessmen, people of culture and art.

Representatives of the most eminent aristocratic families from Europe, America, Asia and Africa were also present. An honoured guest was Jolanta Kwaśniewska.

First guests appeared at the castle just after 7 pm. Women in beautiful 20s style dresses decorated with feathers and men – as befits an occasion – in tailcoats. They were welcomed by the organizers of this huge event, representatives of the Lubomirski family Stanisław Lubomirski-Lanckoroński, Jan Lubomirski-Lanckoroński, his wife Dominika Kulczyk-Lubomirska. That night the castle changed beyond recognition.

Steps were decorated with beautiful compositions of thousands of pale pink sword lilies and rouses. The ballroom was also filled with flowers. Gerberas in white, cream and yellow shades were used in this case.

About seven hundred people enjoyed themselves in this, the biggest castle room. Polonaise was the first dance. Then the swing and foxtrot – dances of the 20s reigned supreme in the ballroom. One of the attractions was the showing of old cars. Michał Milowicz, Beata Rybotycka, Jacek Wójcicki, among others, sang for the guests.

The twenties style casino was put in one of the rooms. The best restaurateurs of Kraków prepared food and drinks. Wierzynek, Loża Aktora Restaurant, Pod Strzechą and Fa Fontaine. The tables were groaning with delicacies of Old Polish, Italian, and French cuisine. Excellent wine was plentiful. A huge, weighing about 100 kilos cake in the shape of the Wiśnicz castle was also prepared. At midnight beautiful fireworks lit up the sky in Wiśnicz, and then guests danced waltz.

The 2nd International Charity Ball was organized under the slogan “The young for the young”. The money raised at this event will be donated to the purchase of medical equipment for the Children’s Oncology Hospital in Kraków-Prokocim.

- This is a beautiful initiative of an open heart – said Waldemar Dąbrowski, the Minister of Culture.

- This money will reach the really needy people – added Jolanta Kwaśniewska, whose Foundation “Communication without barriers” took the patronage of the ball.

- I treat this ball exceptionally because I have encountered cancer myself – said Krzysztof Kolberger. Yesterday we did not know how much money was raised. Jan Lubomirski admitted, however, that funds from this year’s ball might exceed three times the amount raised two years ago. 100 thousand zlotys were raised during the 1st Charity Ball.
