Museum of the Lubomirski Princes Family

About the Museum

The Museum of the Lubomirski Princes Family in Cracow is a new, exceptional place on the cultural map, located in the very heart of the Cracow Old Town. It is a boutique museum institution that combines the centuries-old history of one of the most important families in the history of Poland with works of world art. The museum was established on the initiative of the family in a historic tenement house belonging to the Lubomirski family for nearly five generations, creating a space where history, art, and the memory of generations meet in a single narrative about heritage and responsibility for culture.

The Lubomirski family has been connected for centuries with the most important events in the history of Poland, and its representatives played a significant role in the political, social, and cultural life of the country, co-creating its heritage and supporting the development of art, education, and social activity. The establishment of the museum is a natural extension of this tradition — a continuation of multi-generational activity for the protection of cultural heritage and historical memory, aimed at sharing the family’s history and bringing it closer to future generations.

The second branch of the museum is the Lubomirski Princes Museum located in the historic Castle in Lubniewice. This branch extends the museum’s activities beyond Cracow, creating a coherent story about the history of the Lubomirskis, their heritage, and their centuries-old contribution to the development of Polish culture and art.

THE LUBOMIRSKI PRINCES COLLECTION

The heart of the boutique museum is the Lubomirski Princes Collection – one of the most valuable private collections in Poland, numbering over 25,000 items from various categories. The exhibition includes unique works of art, crafts, documents, and memorabilia that together create a multi-generational story of the family.

Fragments of this collection have previously been presented in the largest and most important museum institutions in Poland, confirming its exceptional historical and artistic value. The collections of the Lubomirski Princes have been hosted, among others, at: the National Museum in Warsaw and Cracow, the Museum in Przeworsk, the Museum in Janowiec, as well as in the Royal Łazienki and the Wilanów Palace.

As part of a donation, exhibits from the Collection have found their way to many institutions, including the National Museum in Warsaw, the Art Museum in Łódź, the Oporów Castle Museum, the Museum in Walewice, and the Castle Museum in Wiśnicz.

Currently, the museum offers you the opportunity to admire this extraordinary heritage as part of a permanent historical exhibition and regularly changing temporary exhibitions, which allow you to deeply explore the richness and diversity of the Collection.
