The Exhibition of Paintings in Wilanów
The Wilanów Palace Museum can boast of the biggest gallery of portrait painting in Poland. It includes 62 pictures of princes Lubomirski, which are currently presented in the context and space they were created for. The new exhibition “The Lubomirski Family at Wilanów. Politics and private life” is an opportunity for connoisseurs to look at the unique works of art.
Employees of the Palace reconstructed the appearance of the nineteenth-century portrait gallery. There are large format images of the most prominent members of the family of princes Lubomirski. The exhibition includes, among others, portraits of: Stanisław – the winner of the Battle of Chocim in 1621, Jerzy Sebastian – the only Polish aristocrat who remained loyal to the Polish king during the Swedish invasion, Hieronim Augustyn – one of the commanders of the Battle of Vienna in 1683 or Stanisław Herakliusz – the creator and owner of Warsaw Baths Park and one of the greatest writers of the Baroque era.
The second part of the exhibition is more intimate. Paintings are presented in the private apartment of Princess Izabela Lubomirska – the owner of Mokotów, who gave the name to this district of Warsaw. You can admire portraits of the Blue Marquise and her family and friends in the Hall, the Living Room and the Golden Bedroom. You can also look into the bath apartment, princess private bathroom, inaccessible to visitors on a daily basis.
A specially prepared thematic path supplements the exhibition of paintings. It includes ten stops on the residence premises where evidence of artistic patronage of princes Lubomirski was preserved.
The ceremonial opening of the exhibition was held on the 14th of October 2011. Among others, the following attended: His Eminence, Cardinal Józef Glemp, the Primate of Poland, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski, Minister Maciej Klimczak, Minister Dominik Radziwiłł, Senator Jarosław Lasecki, and representatives of business, science, and the aristocracy.
The authorities of the Princes Lubomirski Foundation were engaged in organizing the exhibition. Private collections of the foundation were made available and are exhibited in the Palace. It also funded the publication of the exhibition catalogues and the book “Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski and artists”.
We invite everyone to see the unique collections. The exhibition is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 9.30 – 15.00 and on Sundays 10.30 – 15.00.
