Scholarships

The Princes Lubomirski Foundation also supports students of the Cracow University of Economics. The University trains young people in the faculties and specializations particularly needed in the modern economy. It offers undergraduate, master’s, and postgraduate studies. It provides those interested with many other forms of teaching, such as open lectures, courses, meetings with interesting people, scientific conferences.

Endowing scholarships is in the form of permanent monthly support. Money is for the poor young people coming from the former Borderland of the Republic of Poland who got to the above-mentioned university. The Princes Lubomirski Foundation in the realization of this project closely cooperates with the Foundation of the University of Economics, which deals with the sharing of the contributions received. The President of the Princes Lubomirski Foundation is a member of the Chapter of Scholarship named after Aleksander Lubomirski, which is composed of many eminent people, including the authorities of the university.

Endowing scholarships is to help and sometimes enable poor students to learn at a chosen university. It has also a political dimension, because the project is aimed at people of Polish origin. Stormy ups and downs of the history made it difficult for them to have contact with Poland, its culture, history and native language. The authorities of the Foundation have decided to financially support such people. Studies, besides professional preparation, will enable them to better know their own roots and tradition. Then they will be able to take up jobs within the territory of Poland or hand down acquired knowledge after returning to the previous place of residence. If they decide to return, their experience will help to strengthen the Polish identity in the former Borderland.
The scholarships project is also justified by family charitable tradition. It has been adapted to today’s needs and standards. The members of the distinguished prince family often sent their subjects / servants / charges to learn practical professions, which they financed. It enabled them to get well-educated and dedicated administrators of estates and residences as well as teachers who spread the acquired knowledge throughout the estate.

The members of the Lubomirski family have been connected with the University of Economics since it was established. The main building of the university was founded by Prince Aleksander Lubomirski, who gave part of his fortune to the authorities of Galicia. The centre for the poor boys was established at that time, where they found refuge and were able to learn a practical profession. Today it is a modern, dynamically developing university.
